I’m glad to be back to school after our Winter Break!  We will be working hard in the coming weeks and I’d like to give you an idea of what we’ll be working on.

For the next two weeks, we’ll be working to learn about our Core Democratic Values of Truth, Life and Liberty.  We’ll culminate this unit next week learning about Diversity when we learn about Dr. Martin Luther King and his work.

Kindergarten is beginning a unit on Nursery Rhymes.  We’ll be learning a new rhyme each week.  This week’s Nursery Rhyme is “Humpty Dumpty” and tomorrow (Tuesday) we’re going to make our egg “Humpty Dumpty” fall and see if we can put him back together again.  We hope to do better than all the kings’ men!

First grade are becoming independent readers!  We will continue to read our leveled paper readers and practice, practice, practice reading!  Please encourage your student to read at home.

Second grade is reading their first “trade book” during Guided Reading, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble”.  We are very excited because it is a harder book than we’ve read before, and it’s not a leveled reader.

As always, if you have any questions for me, please contact me at pgohs@nwa.edu or at school at 547-9000 ext. 22
